Yep, pretty much.
At least that's how our family sees it.
Sometimes seeing the funny side of things can be difficult, but at other times it's hard to not laugh at the humorous tidbits that seem to be constantly tossed around by the younger members of our family. Homeschooling in particular provides a fertile ground for giggles at all sorts of cute remarks, particularly when you and your siblings cover the full range from kindergarten through college. For us older girls, it has been a blessing and privilege to be part of our younger sisters' and brothers' education (and you know, it's surprising how much they teach us). Some of the recent quotes that have had us laughing behind our hands occurred in the following scenarios:
Around our table we like to have the periodic political discussion...
Ethan: (trying to pronounce "democrat") "I can't pronounce that! Well, forgive me if I can't!"
Victoria and Savannah are currently wading through German and French (the latter in preparation for our June trip), and a few weeks ago Savannah was trying to explain to Ethan that German has three different articles and you use masculine, feminine, or neuter articles for different words...for example, "das Sofa", "die Frau", "der Hund", etc. etc. After five or ten minutes of discussion, Ethan finally paused and asked curiously, "Why wouldn't you just say, 'the sofa'?"
Exactly, brother.
Sometimes it takes a while for the younger generation to get a grasp of time and history...
Levi: (running out from playing Playmobile in the back room) Did they have wagons in the old days? You know, the old, old, old days? Not these days...the old, old, old days."
A few minutes later he came running back out to ask, "Did they have bunnies and kittens in the old days? The old, old, old days?"
I'm not sure if the "old, old, old days" refers to the Old Testament, colonial America, or ten years ago (after all, Levi, I was born in the 1900s), but yes, laddie, I believe they did have bunnies and kittens.
